Honda's hybrid Passport race truck makes more than 1,300 hp. It isn't a hybrid Passport for the road.

Honda shows its new Baja truck at SEMA on November 3. Nothing in the announcement points to a road version.

On October 30, Honda said its racing arm, Honda Racing Corporation USA, will show the new Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 3 to 6. Honda says it has a 2.4-litre twin-turbo V6 and an 800-volt hybrid system, for more than 1,300 peak horsepower. Honda has partnered with two-time Baja 1000 winner Bryce Menzies to chase an overall Baja 1000 win. Honda Canada Newsroom

Honda also calls it the first hybrid-powered Trophy Truck to compete in the SCORE World Desert Championship, and says its power beats the 9-litre V8s in today's top Trophy Trucks. Those are Honda's claims. The truck hasn't raced yet.

Here's what matters if you're shopping. The truck is called a Passport, and the headline says hybrid. Expect customers to ask if a hybrid Passport is coming. Honda's announcement doesn't say that. It describes a race truck. Every 2027 Passport trim Honda Canada lists today has a 3.5-litre V6.

The closest thing to a road Passport in this story is the support fleet. Honda says HRC built three 2027 Passport TrailSport Baja Chase vehicles for race-day communications, pit stops and crew transport, with upgrades like a Borla exhaust and forged wheels. Honda hasn't said it will sell them. My earlier story on HRC parts being U.S.-only for now covers what's confirmed for Canada.

My prediction: By April 30, 2027, Honda Canada will not announce a hybrid Passport. The race truck is built for a desert race, the 2027 Passport TrailSport has only just arrived with its V6, and Honda's announcement says nothing about a road version. I'm wrong if Honda Canada's newsroom or a Honda Canada price list names a hybrid Passport for sale in Canada, for any model year, by that date.

If you're buying right now: don't hold off on a Passport waiting for a hybrid. I read the race truck as Honda building the Passport's off-road image, not previewing its next engine. If you're weighing the TrailSport against a 4Runner or Bronco, my Passport TrailSport comparison has the side-by-side.
