TL;DR
- Statistics Canada: 547,673 new vehicles in Q2, highest second quarter since 2019. Hybrid-electric registrations jumped 39.5%. Gasoline fell 7.3%. Conventional hybrids are not ZEVs in that accounting.
- Canadian Black Book, week ending September 5: overall used market nearly flat at -0.05%. Compact cars rose 0.47%. Subcompact crossovers jumped 1.01%. Retail listing average about $38,500.
- 54.6% of new ZEVs were assembled in Asia. Ontario ZEV registrations rose 46.6%. Honda’s Alliston line is Civic and CR-V hybrid, not a Canadian-built BEV.
Canada Hybrids Jump 39.5% in Q2
The growth fuel is hybrid, not an EV-only headline. Drive CR-V Hybrid before you default to gas.

First positive car-segment week since early May. Civic territory. Not a reason to wait for a crash.

Ontario ZEVs jumped. The assembly map still says Asia. Alliston’s Honda is hybrid.

None of today’s stories rewrites the September Honda Financial Services quote in your hand. The country registered more hybrids than a year ago, so drive the CR-V Hybrid and Civic Hybrid instead of treating gas as the default. Used compact cars ticked up, so do not park a clean Civic waiting for wholesale to crack. And if you are holding out for a Honda BEV built in Alliston, Statistics Canada’s assembly map and Honda’s own plant list are both telling you that car is not the one on the lot this week. What is in front of you is a Canadian-built hybrid Honda, a used compact that did not get cheaper overnight, and a September program that still has to be confirmed on a written quote. That is the decision that is actually yours.
Quick answers
What is the September 11 Honda brief about?
Three buyer issues: Statistics Canada said hybrid-electric registrations rose 39.5% in Q2 2026; Canadian Black Book said used compact cars rose 0.47% in the week ending September 5; and 54.6% of new ZEVs that quarter were assembled in Asia.
Should I wait to buy a Honda because of these stories?
No. The hybrid surge is a reason to drive CR-V Hybrid and Civic Hybrid, not a reason to pause. The used-compact print is a reason not to wait for a crash. The ZEV assembly map is a reason not to wait for an Alliston-built Honda BEV Honda Canada has not listed.
Reading this and shopping a Honda this week?
Send the model, trim and the quote you already have. I will tell you whether hybrid, used, or the car on the lot is the cleaner move — not a national percentage pretending to be your deal.
