Hybrid Just Became the Default. Honda and Nissan Just Signed for 2029.

Two facts for anyone shopping a Honda in the GTA this week: Toyota's August was two-thirds electrified, and Honda signed a real (if distant) software deal with Nissan.

Toyota Hits 64% Electrified Share in August

14,461 electrified Toyotas sold last month. The real story for a CR-V shopper is how normal hybrid has become.

Honda, Nissan to Share Vehicle Software by 2029

A signed engineering agreement, not a merger reboot. It changes nothing on the lot today.

The Through-Line

Neither of today's stories rewrites the September Honda Financial Services quote in your hand. Toyota's 64.3% electrified August doesn't tell you the RAV4 beat the CR-V on any specific trim; it tells you hybrid stopped being a specialty order and became the default a shopper expects, so check the Hybrid line on CR-V before you default to gas out of habit. And Honda and Nissan's software agreement is a real, signed deal — but it targets fiscal 2029, which means the Civic or CR-V on the lot this week is untouched by it. What's actually in front of you this week is a hybrid CR-V that deserves a look even if you walked in wanting gas, and a September Honda program that runs through the 30th. That's the decision that's actually yours to make right now.

Quick answers

What is the September 8 Honda brief about?

Two buyer issues: Toyota Canada's August sales were a record 64.3% electrified, showing how mainstream hybrid adoption has become; and Honda and Nissan concluded a joint agreement to share core vehicle electronics and software starting fiscal year 2029.

Should I wait to buy a Honda because of these stories?

Not on this evidence. Toyota's hybrid share is a reason to check CR-V Hybrid rather than default to gas, not a reason to wait. The Honda-Nissan software agreement affects vehicles years away and touches nothing on today's lot.

Reading this and shopping a Honda this week?

Send the model, trim and the quote you already have. I'll tell you whether September's program, a hybrid-vs-gas comparison, or a pre-owned alternative is the cleaner move on that car.
