Toyota Canada reported on September 1 that electrified vehicles led August sales at a record 14,461 units, up 35.6% year over year and 64.3% of overall volume. Total Toyota Canada sales were 22,473, up 2.9%. The assembled-in-Canada hybrid version of the new-generation 2026 RAV4 had a record month for the fourth month in a row and is up 69.8% year to date. What it means: The compact-SUV hybrid conversation on my floor is no longer “does Honda have a hybrid CR-V.” It has one, it is Alliston-built, and it is the trim a lot of Vaughan families actually want. The conversation is now “why is every second shopper also holding a RAV4 Hybrid quote.” Toyota made the 2026 RAV4 fully electrified. The hybrid is the volume path, not a side trim. Four consecutive record months is what that looks like when the product and the Canadian plant line up.

The 0.9 L/100 km gap is real on the Canadian ratings. It is not the whole car. CR-V Hybrid still wins a lot of the interior and driving conversations I sit in. RAV4 Hybrid still wins a lot of the “I already decided Toyota” conversations before anyone sits down. The record months do not change the first group. They make the second group larger.
I keep a live Vaughan snapshot of this comparison at RAV4 vs CR-V because the Canadian fuel, warranty and AWD details are the part a U.S. sales chart cannot tell you. Honda Canada’s September CR-V Hybrid lease dollars and Stretch Lease terms are the tools in front of us this month. They are not a fuel-rating rewrite.
My prediction: By March 4, 2027, Honda Canada will improve CR-V Hybrid lease dollars or the CR-V Hybrid advertised lease APR versus the September 2026 program in at least one monthly cycle, because four consecutive RAV4 Hybrid record months is the mix Honda has to defend in compact-SUV hybrid. I will be wrong if Honda holds CR-V Hybrid money flat through February and leans only on Stretch Lease and gas-trim price coverage.
