Bank of Canada policy rate at 2.25% before Oct. 28

Housing is on its knees. A hike next week would raise car loan rates too. Strong-credit buyers keep the leverage.

The Bank of Canada policy rate is 2.25% ahead of its next scheduled decision on October 28, 2026. This article does not have a verified source for an 87% probability of a hike; market pricing is an estimate, not a Bank decision. CBC News / Jeff Lagerquist

Primary sources: Bank of Canada policy rate

The policy rate can influence borrowing costs, but it does not automatically set an individual auto loan or lease APR. Lenders and dealer finance programs choose their own offers. Compare the written APR, fees, term and total cost; do not assume a rate move produces a fixed monthly change for every buyer.

My personal forecast is that the Bank will hold its policy rate at 2.25% on October 28, 2026. The decision is uncertain. Even if the policy rate changes, the timing and amount of any change to auto finance offers are up to each lender and program.

If you are shopping, ask for the current written APR and total borrowing cost on the exact vehicle and term. Compare lender offers and confirm how long each quote is valid; the policy-rate decision does not guarantee a change in a specific Honda program.
