A U.S. Honda Warranty Headline Is Not Honda Canada Coverage.

American Honda announced a U.S. notice. Honda Canada has not published a matching campaign. The useful move is a VIN check, not a screenshotted miles figure.

Kelley Blue Book reported on September 1 that American Honda announced a U.S. warranty notice covering cylinder-head gaskets on certain Civic, Accord and CR-V models. Torque News repeated the U.S. announcement on September 3. Honda Canada’s newsroom has not published a matching Canadian campaign as of September 6. I am not treating a U.S. miles term as Ontario coverage. Kelley Blue Book · Torque News

What it means: This is the weekend question I am already getting: “Does that cover my Civic?” The honest answer is that I do not have a Honda Canada bulletin to read from. A U.S. service notice is written for U.S. VINs and U.S. terms. Honda Canada publishes Canadian campaigns, Canadian kilometres, and Canadian owner notices. Until that document exists, the published Honda Canada new-vehicle terms remain 3 years / 60,000 km comprehensive and 5 years / 100,000 km powertrain.

I will not list U.S. model years here as if they were a Canadian coverage chart. That is how a screenshotted article turns into a false promise on a used Civic. If you own the car, ask the dealer to run the VIN against Honda Canada’s current campaigns and to write down what came back. If you are shopping used, read the service-history entries on the CARFAX Canada report and then do the same VIN check. I keep a used-lot walk-through on used Honda in Vaughan for that job.

Two mistakes I want to kill this week. First: assuming a U.S. miles figure converts cleanly into kilometres and therefore applies at Maple Honda. It does not, unless Honda Canada says it does. Second: walking away from a clean used Civic or CR-V only because an American headline appeared in your feed. Coverage is VIN-specific. The car in front of you is not a press release.

My prediction: By December 6, 2026, Honda Canada will publish a Canadian warranty-extension campaign covering cylinder-head gaskets on at least one of Civic, CR-V or Accord. U.S. and Canadian campaigns often follow each other. They are not the same document until Honda Canada writes one. I will be wrong if Honda Canada has published no such campaign by that date.

If you're buying right now: Own a Civic, CR-V or Accord? Have the dealer run the VIN and keep the printout. Shopping used? Start with CARFAX service-history entries, then the same VIN check, before you treat a U.S. headline as a reason to wait or a reason to walk. See how Honda Canada warranty and recall coverage actually works in Ontario.

Quick answers

Does a U.S. Honda warranty notice cover my Ontario Civic or CR-V?

Not automatically. Kelley Blue Book and Torque News reported that American Honda announced a U.S. warranty notice. Honda Canada’s newsroom has not published a matching Canadian campaign as of September 6, 2026. Canadian coverage is what Honda Canada lists for that VIN.

What is Honda Canada’s published new-vehicle warranty?

Honda Canada’s published new-vehicle terms are 3 years / 60,000 km comprehensive and 5 years / 100,000 km powertrain, with hybrid-component coverage of 8 years / 160,000 km on applicable models. Confirm the current terms on owners.honda.ca and the window booklet for your VIN.

What should a used Civic or CR-V shopper do with this headline?

Have the selling dealer run the VIN against Honda Canada’s current campaigns. Read service-history entries on the CARFAX Canada report. Do not treat a U.S. miles figure as Ontario coverage, and do not skip a car only because an American bulletin appeared in your feed.

Want a VIN check, not a U.S. screenshot?

Send the year, model and last six of the VIN. I will tell you what Honda Canada’s current campaign list shows for that unit, and what still has to be confirmed at the service desk.

U.S. announcement coverage from Kelley Blue Book (September 1) and Torque News (September 3). Honda Canada newsroom checked September 6, 2026, with no matching Canadian campaign found. New-vehicle warranty terms from owners.honda.ca / Honda Canada facts reference. Predictions are my personal read, not Honda Canada policy and not a promise of coverage.
