Auto123 reported on August 27 that Automotive News, citing supplier data and Honda product planners, expects Accord and CR-V to move toward hybrid-only lineups around the turn of the decade. Honda Canada has not published a Canadian hybrid-only date for either nameplate. What Honda Canada has said, on May 14, is that a Hybrid Sedan Prototype previewed one of 15 new hybrid models planned globally — primarily in North America — by 2030. Auto123 · Honda Canada Newsroom
What it means: I am treating the 2030 hybrid-only path as a planner-and-supplier report, not as a Honda Canada trim change. The current Canadian lineup still lists gas CR-V trims and a gas Accord SE beside the hybrid versions. If someone tells you “Honda is going hybrid-only, so wait,” they are collapsing a decade-scale product rumour into a September shopping decision. That is not how this lot works.
The floor conversation is simpler. If you want hybrid fuel now, CR-V Hybrid is already 6.4 L/100 km combined on honda.ca, Alliston-built for the Canadian-market story, with standard Real Time AWD. Check out the CR-V Hybrid vs gas fuel savings breakdown in Canada to see if the math works for your daily drive. If you want a gas CR-V or an Accord SE because the kilometres or the price fit, those trims are still on honda.ca. Toyota Canada has already shown what a hybrid-first compact-SUV mix looks like with RAV4. Walk that comparison on RAV4 vs CR-V in Vaughan with today’s Canadian figures, not a 2030 rumour.
I am also not going to publish Auto123’s reported March 2030 gas-Accord end date as a Canadian fact. Honda Canada has not confirmed it. The May 14 prototype was a prototype. Fifteen new hybrids by 2030 is the locked Honda statement. Hybrid-only CR-V in Canada is not. If Honda Canada later posts a date that removes gas CR-V from honda.ca, that will be a story. Until then, the September program — including Stretch Lease on the models that carry it through September 30 — is the document that writes your payment conversation.
My prediction: On September 6, 2027, honda.ca will still list at least one non-hybrid gasoline CR-V trim for the current generation. A 2030 hybrid-only rumour does not delete the 2026–2027 gas CR-V. I will be wrong if honda.ca has no gas CR-V trim listed on that date.
If you're buying right now: Do not skip this year’s gas CR-V or Accord SE because of a 2030 article. If you want hybrid, buy the CR-V Hybrid or Accord hybrid that is already priced on the September grid. If the written quote already fits, use it before September 30.
Quick answers
Is Honda making the CR-V and Accord hybrid-only in Canada?
Honda Canada has not published a Canadian hybrid-only date for CR-V or Accord. Auto123, citing Automotive News and product planners, reported a possible North American turn toward hybrid-only lineups around 2030. That is not a honda.ca trim change for 2026.
Can I still buy a gas CR-V or gas Accord in Canada?
Yes for the current Canadian lineup. Honda Canada still lists gas CR-V trims and a gas Accord SE alongside CR-V Hybrid and Accord hybrid trims. Confirm the live trim list on honda.ca before you sign.
Should I wait for a hybrid-only CR-V instead of buying this year?
Not if a written September Honda Financial Services quote already fits. A 2030 product rumour does not rewrite this month’s gas or hybrid CR-V. If you want hybrid efficiency now, CR-V Hybrid is already 6.4 L/100 km combined on honda.ca. Compare it with RAV4 on the Vaughan page.
Choosing gas or hybrid CR-V this month?
Send the kilometres and the trim you are staring at. I will tell you whether this year’s gas CR-V, the CR-V Hybrid, or a written September quote is the cleaner move — not a 2030 rumour.
