Honda Is Reportedly Keeping the Current CR-V on the Line Longer.

Three weeks ago the factory date was February 2027. This week the same reporting says spring. That is a U.S. production story. It is not a Honda Canada announcement, and it is not a reason to sit out the CR-V Hybrid Alliston is already building.

Short version: the next CR-V is still a report. The one you can drive this month is not.

Honda CanadaNo next-gen CR-V page, price, or on-sale date on honda.ca.
September reportNikkei: North American production as early as February 2027.
This weekSame outlets now say April 2027 or later. The month is not settled.

On September 18 I wrote that Nikkei had Honda aiming to start the next hybrid CR-V in North America as early as February 2027, with Ontario mentioned first and Indiana and Ohio after that. That brief is still on this site. It is now out of date on the calendar, not on the conclusion: a factory target is not a car you can order in Vaughan.

Nikkei reported on October 6–7 that Honda has told major suppliers the North American start for the next CR-V hybrid has moved from as early as February 2027 to at least April 2027. The same report said U.S. hybrid output could slip to May or later. Nikkei did not give a reason in the portion available without a subscription. Nikkei Asia

The reports do not even agree on the month

Car and Driver, citing Automotive News, said Honda is pushing the redesigned hybrid-only CR-V to April 2027 so it can build more of the current CR-V first. Other write-ups of the same Automotive News story put the new start in March, and they quote a supply-chain source rather than Honda. First-year volume of the redesigned model is described as about 6.7 percent lower. One secondary account puts that revised figure at 41,315 units, and it is not clear which plant or which 12 months that covers.

I am not going to pretend those are the same sentence. February became “at least April” in one paper. A three-month slip landed on March in another. April is the date Car and Driver used. Until Honda Canada or Honda of Canada Manufacturing publishes a date, spring 2027 is the honest range, and even that is a report.

Car and Driver’s October 7 story is a rewrite of Automotive News, not a Honda Canada release. It also says Honda has dropped a plan to build the next Civic at the Greensburg, Indiana plant, so that plant can concentrate on the CR-V, and that North American Civic sedans would keep coming from Canada. That Indiana plan was never a Canadian product announcement. Car and Driver

What this actually is: the current CR-V is the priority

Read the delay as a demand story, not a stumble. Honda’s best-selling nameplate in the United States is the CR-V. The reported move is to keep building the one dealers are already short of, and to give the Indiana plant to the CR-V instead of splitting it with a future Civic. That is Honda choosing the vehicle people are paying for.

For a buyer in Maple, the useful line is the Canadian one. Honda of Canada Manufacturing in Alliston builds the gas CR-V and the CR-V Hybrid sold here. A calendar change in Greensburg, Indiana does not rebadge the car on the truck to Vaughan. Confirm the build plant on the window sticker of the unit you are signing, the way you should on any Honda.

Honda Canada still lists both a gas CR-V and a CR-V Hybrid. For 2026 the gas engine is 190 hp and 179 lb-ft. The hybrid is 204 combined hp and 247 lb-ft, with fuel consumption as low as 6.4 L/100 km, against 7.8 L/100 km for gas 2WD and 8.4 L/100 km for gas AWD. Those are honda.ca figures, not U.S. mpg. My buyer read: if you need a CR-V before next summer, shop the Alliston car. A spring production start, even if it holds, still has to clear shipping, PDI and Canadian allocation before anyone in the GTA takes one home. Waiting for a redesign that is not on honda.ca is how people miss the hybrid that is already here.

What I would not do with this story

I would not tell a Civic shopper that hatchback supply is moving to Japan. That claim is in the U.S. reporting. This site does not publish Civic Hatchback build-origin as a fact, and Honda Canada has not said the Canadian hatchback plan changed.

I would not tell a CR-V shopper the gas model is cancelled. Hybrid-only is still a product-plan report for the next generation. The gas CR-V is on the Honda Canada site today, and it is still the lower entry price.

I would not quote a U.S. sticker, a U.S. mpg number, or a U.S. days-supply figure as if it were the lot on Auto Vaughan Drive.

Three calls, dated

My prediction: On January 7, 2027, Honda Canada will still not have a next-generation CR-V page on honda.ca. I am wrong if a Canadian spec page for that vehicle is live before then.

My prediction: No customer-ready next-gen CR-V Hybrid will be on a GTA Honda lot before May 1, 2027. Ontario Honda stores will still be delivering the current-generation CR-V Hybrid as the volume hybrid SUV. I am wrong if the redesigned one is on a GTA Honda lot before that date.

My prediction: The first Canadian-market next-gen CR-V Hybrid will not reach an Ontario customer before October 1, 2027. A spring factory start is not a summer delivery. I am wrong if I hand a buyer the keys to that redesigned hybrid before October 1.

If you are shopping this month

October’s Honda Canada program is already on the rate page. The current CR-V Hybrid is the one those payments are written for. If a reported 2028 redesign is the only reason you are pausing, ask what you are actually waiting for: a new shape, a lower hybrid cost, or a car Honda has not priced in Canada. The first one is a rumour. The second is Honda’s stated goal for the next hybrid system. The third is the only one that changes a contract.

Questions I am already getting

Is the next CR-V delayed in Canada?

Honda Canada has not announced it, so there is no Canadian date to delay. The slip is in supplier and plant reporting about North American production.

Will the next one be hybrid only?

That is what the U.S. reports say. Honda Canada still sells gas and hybrid CR-Vs. Treat hybrid-only as a future-product report until honda.ca says otherwise.

Does this change Alliston?

Not on anything Honda of Canada Manufacturing has published. Alliston builds the Canadian-market gas CR-V and CR-V Hybrid. Indiana is a U.S. plant story.

Has Honda Canada delayed the next CR-V Hybrid?

No. Honda Canada has not announced a next-generation CR-V or a Canadian on-sale date. The delay is an industry report about North American factory timing, not a Honda Canada product announcement.

When is the next CR-V Hybrid supposed to start production?

In September 2026 Nikkei reported a target as early as February 2027. In October, Nikkei reported that start had moved to at least April 2027, while other outlets citing Automotive News described a three-month slip. The reports do not agree on the exact month.

Should I wait for the redesigned CR-V in Vaughan?

Only if you can comfortably wait well past a spring 2027 production start. A factory start is not a delivery date. The CR-V Hybrid on honda.ca today is the car Ontario dealers can actually order and deliver.

Where is the Canadian CR-V built?

Honda of Canada Manufacturing in Alliston, Ontario builds the Canadian-market gas CR-V and CR-V Hybrid. A reported change at Honda's Indiana plant is a U.S. manufacturing story, not a change to the Alliston car you buy in Ontario.

Want the CR-V that exists?

I can check live CR-V Hybrid allocation at Maple Honda and price the October program on the trim you actually want. No U.S. payment, no invented delivery date on a car Honda Canada has not announced.
