What it means: Read Honda's wording carefully, because the gap between the two halves of it is the whole story. Honda can tell you the Si is coming back. Honda cannot tell you when. A normal model-year changeover doesn't sound like that — a changeover has a date, because the replacement already exists on a production schedule. "In the coming years" is what a manufacturer says when the decision on the next one hasn't been finalized. That's not a reason to write an obituary; the Si has been part of the Civic story for decades and Honda has committed, on the record, to bringing it back. It is a reason to stop treating the 2026 cars on the ground as replaceable.
The Alliston piece is what makes this local rather than trivia. My prediction: By October 26, 2026, Honda Canada will not have advertised a factory incentive on the 2026 Civic Si — no lease cash, no subvented rate, no bonus dollars — because there is no reason to discount a trim you can't rebuild, and every reason to protect the residual value on the model that eventually replaces it.
My prediction: By July 2027, a three-year-old Civic Si in the GTA will hold a higher percentage of its original MSRP than a three-year-old Civic Sport Touring — a gap that doesn't exist in the used market today — because a manual performance compact with no replacement on sale becomes genuinely scarce in a used market that's softening almost everywhere else.
