Short version: the 2027 Civic gets one new trim and one new feature. The trim is Sport-L, a gas Civic with leather. The feature is Honda S+ Shift, and it goes on the Sport Touring Hybrid only.
Honda Canada announced the 2027 Civic Sedan and Hatchback on October 8, 2026. Sedan MSRPs: LX $29,090, Sport-L $33,550, Sport Hybrid $34,850, Sport Touring Hybrid $38,350. Honda says the cars arrive at dealers soon and the Sport-L joins by the end of the year. Honda Canada Newsroom

What the Sport-L is
Honda calls it the first Civic Sport-L. It keeps the 2.0-litre gas engine and adds things that used to need the top hybrid: leather upholstery, heated rear seats and silver interior trim. The hatchback version also gets dual-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel.
What it means: until now, a Civic buyer who wanted leather had to go all the way to the Sport Touring Hybrid. Now there is a leather Civic $4,800 lower on MSRP. That is a real gap on a compact car.
The $1,300 question
The Sport-L sedan is $33,550. The Sport Hybrid sedan is $34,850. So the choice is leather and heated rear seats, or the hybrid, for $1,300 more.
Honda Canada rates the Sport-L at 6.9 L/100 km combined and the hybrid at 4.9. At 20,000 km a year that is about 400 litres of gas saved, every year. Put your own pump price on that. For most commuters from Vaughan, the hybrid earns the $1,300 back inside the time they keep the car.
Honda also says hybrids are half of all Civic sales in Canada this year. The Sport-L is aimed at the other half: the buyer who drives less and cares more about the cabin.
S+ Shift: one trim only
S+ Shift is a drive mode that first came on the 2026 Prelude. Honda describes it as simulating a performance transmission, with rev-matched downshifts, gear holding and more engine sound. On the 2027 Civic it is on the Sport Touring Hybrid, sedan and hatchback. The Sport Hybrid does not get it.
It does not change fuel ratings. Both hybrids are rated the same 4.9 L/100 km combined in the sedan.
The Civic Sedan, gas and hybrid, is built at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario. Every 2027 Civic includes Honda Sensing®. Honda Canada Newsroom
My predictions
My prediction: The 2027 Civic Sport-L will be on honda.ca's build-and-price tool by January 9, 2027, because Honda Canada has already said it joins the lineup by year end. I am wrong if it is not there on that date.
My prediction: S+ Shift stays on the Sport Touring Hybrid only through April 9, 2027. Honda is using it to give the top trim a reason to exist now that leather is available lower down. I am wrong if honda.ca lists S+ Shift on the Civic Sport Hybrid before then.
My prediction: By October 9, 2027, Honda Canada will state a hybrid share of Civic sales above 55%, up from the 50% it reported this year. A $1,300 step from Sport-L to Sport Hybrid pushes people up, not down. I am wrong if the next share Honda publishes is 55% or lower.
If you're buying right now: the 2026 Civic is the car on the lot today, and the 2027 changes are a new trim and a drive mode, not a redesign. If you wanted leather without the top hybrid, the Sport-L is worth waiting a couple of months for. If you wanted a Sport Hybrid, nothing here is a reason to wait. The Civic sedan vs hatchback vs hybrid comparison lays out the body styles side by side.
