The news: DesRosiers Automotive Consultants, reported by Canadian Auto Dealer on September 18, said Ontario new light-vehicle sales rose 7.1% in August and contributed close to 4,500 extra units. National volume was about 168,000, up 5.4% from August 2025 — the third straight month of year-over-year growth, and the largest of those three gains. Nine of 10 provinces were up. Manitoba led on percentage at 18.9%, Saskatchewan 10.8%, Quebec 4.1%. Prince Edward Island was the only decline, down 11.9%. Year to date, Canadians have bought about 1.29 million new light vehicles, still 1.2% behind 2025. Only Nova Scotia and Quebec are ahead for the year. This is total-market data, not a Honda Canada retail release. Honda Canada's automobiles newsroom still has no August 2026 unit count as of today. Canadian Auto Dealer
What it means: I already covered the national 168,000 / +5.4% print on September 13. The new information is where those extra units actually landed. Ontario is the largest provincial market and the one Maple Honda sits in. A 7.1% gain here is not a Manitoba percentage story. It is more shoppers walking into GTA stores in August than a year earlier. That is the first way allocation tightens: popular Civic and CR-V colours and trims get spoken for before the slower ones move.
The year-to-date catch is the one buyers skip. Three up months have not put Canada ahead of 2025. Ontario's August bounce is not proof the province is ahead for the year either — DesRosiers only named Nova Scotia and Quebec as year-to-date leaders. So this is a better August, not a recovered year. Honda Canada has still not told us how Civic or CR-V performed inside that print. I will not invent a Honda unit total.
My prediction: DesRosiers' next monthly provincial cut, covering September 2026 new light-vehicle sales, will show Ontario still up year over year versus September 2025, because a 7.1% gain in the largest province is not a one-month weather bounce. I will be wrong if that note shows Ontario September 2026 sales down year over year.
If you're buying right now: Do not assume a quiet lot just because it is the last stretch of September. August put more Ontario shoppers in stores. If a Civic or CR-V already fits, confirm the written Honda Financial Services quote before the September program resets — start with this month's Honda deals and the exact VIN, not a headline.

Shopping a Civic or CR-V in the GTA this month?
Tell me the trim and colour and I will tell you whether August's extra Ontario volume is already showing up on that build.
