What's actually in the suite
These ten are what Honda Canada groups under the Honda Sensing heading on the 2026 CR-V and 2026 Civic Sedan specification sheets. The names are Honda's; the descriptions are mine, in the language I would use standing beside the car.
| Feature | What it does, plainly |
|---|---|
| Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) | Holds your set speed and keeps a gap to the car ahead, slowing and resuming without you working the pedals. |
| Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) | Warns you about a closing vehicle ahead and, if you do not respond, applies the brakes itself. |
| Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) | Applies gentle steering to hold you in the middle of a lane it can see. |
| Lane Departure Warning (LDW) | Alerts you when the vehicle drifts out of a detected lane without a signal. |
| Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) | Steers and can brake when it detects you are about to leave the road entirely. |
| Blind Spot Information (BSI) system | Lights an indicator when a vehicle is sitting in a blind spot beside you. |
| Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) | Warns about traffic crossing behind you while you are reversing out of a space. |
| Traffic Jam Assist | Combines the cruise and lane functions for crawling, stop-and-go traffic. |
| Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) | Reads posted signs and displays them for you. |
| Auto high beam headlights | Switches your high beams down when it sees oncoming traffic and back up when the road is clear. |

The three that matter most in GTA traffic
All ten are useful. Three of them change your actual day if you drive here.
Traffic Jam Assist, on the 400
The 400 southbound at 8 a.m. is the exact condition this was built for. Stop, crawl, stop again, forty minutes of it. Letting the car hold the gap and the lane through that is the single biggest reduction in daily driving fatigue on this list. Customers who dismissed it as a gimmick on the test drive are the ones who mention it to me a year later.
Blind Spot Information, changing lanes on the 401
Four lanes, everyone moving at different speeds, and a shoulder check that catches a car that was not there a second ago. This is the feature that prevents the most common expensive-but-not-tragic collision I see come through the body shop.
Cross Traffic Monitor, in every plaza in Vaughan
Reversing out of a spot between two SUVs, where you genuinely cannot see until your bumper is already in the lane. Low speed, low drama, and it quietly prevents a lot of insurance claims.
What Honda Sensing does not do
This is the section a dealership page usually skips, and it is the one I would most want my own family to read.
It is not self-driving
Honda's own footnote on every Canadian specification sheet says it plainly: none of these features are intended to replace the driver's responsibility to exercise due care while driving, and some features have technological limitations. The car assists a driver who is driving. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
It cannot see what you cannot see
The system reads the road with a camera behind the windshield and a radar sensor at the front. Heavy snow, dense fog, hard rain, low winter sun straight into the camera — all of it reduces what the system can detect, and it will tell you so on the dash rather than pretend.
Salt and slush will fault it
A genuinely Canadian limitation nobody mentions at the desk. A film of road salt over the front sensor area, or packed snow across the grille, is enough to put the system into a temporary fault in February. It is not a defect and it does not need a service appointment — it needs a wipe. Clear the grille area and the windshield in front of the mirror when you clear the car.
It does not replace winter tires
Every one of these features works by braking or steering, and both of those depend entirely on the grip between your tire and the road. On all-seasons at −15 °C, the software is asking for traction that the rubber cannot deliver. Driver assistance and winter tires solve different problems; you want both.
The trim question — and the answer that saves you money
Here is the part worth the price of the whole page. I pulled Honda Canada's specification sheets for the two models GTA buyers ask me about most and read the Honda Sensing grid trim by trim.
| Model | Trims listed | Honda Sensing suite |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 CR-V | LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid, Touring Hybrid | All ten standard on every trim |
| 2026 Civic Sedan | LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid | All ten standard on every trim |
The one genuine exception on both: Low-Speed Braking Control is listed under the Honda Sensing heading but is standard only on the top hybrid trim — Touring Hybrid on the CR-V, Sport Touring Hybrid on the Civic Sedan. That is a low-speed function, not the core safety suite.
What this means when you are being sold to
On these two vehicles, "you should step up a trim for the safety features" is not a true statement. Step up for heated leather, a better stereo, a moonroof, a power tailgate, bigger wheels — all real reasons people are happy they spent the money. Do not step up for Honda Sensing, because you already have it on the LX. That is several thousand dollars that belongs in your pocket, and I would rather tell you than have you find out later.
How to check what's on the trim you're pricing
Three ways, in the order I actually trust them.
1. The specification PDF
Every model on honda.ca has a full specifications document, and it contains a Honda Sensing block laid out as a trim-by-trim grid with a dot in each column. It is the least glamorous and most reliable document Honda publishes. Read that grid, not the brochure photography.
2. The window sticker
On the actual vehicle, on the actual lot. Trim names get reused across model years and equipment moves around, so the sticker on the car you are buying beats a brochure for a car like it. Ask to see it. Any salesperson who hesitates has told you something.
3. Ask me and I'll read it with you
Send me the model, model year and trim. I will pull the current Honda Canada sheet and go through the driver-assist grid line by line, including the lines that say you do not need to spend more. No appointment, no obligation, and you do not have to buy the car from me.

Honda Sensing — common questions
What is included in Honda Sensing?
On the 2026 CR-V and 2026 Civic Sedan, Honda Canada's specification sheets group ten features under the Honda Sensing heading: Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto high beam headlights, Blind Spot Information system, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Cross Traffic Monitor, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Traffic Jam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. Low-Speed Braking Control is listed under the same heading but is standard only on the top hybrid trim.
Do I have to buy a higher trim to get Honda Sensing?
Not on the two models I have checked against Honda Canada's own spec sheets. On the 2026 CR-V, all ten Honda Sensing features are standard on every trim from the LX up. On the 2026 Civic Sedan, the same ten are standard on all four trims from the LX up. If a salesperson tells you that you need to move up a trim to get the safety suite on those two vehicles, the published specification sheet disagrees. Move up a trim for seats, sound, a moonroof or a power tailgate — not for Honda Sensing.
Is Honda Sensing self-driving?
No, and this is the misunderstanding that worries me most. Honda's own footnote on every Canadian spec sheet says these features are not intended to replace the driver's responsibility to exercise due care while driving, and that some features have technological limitations. Honda Sensing assists a driver who is driving. It does not drive the car, it will not react to everything, and treating it as autonomy is how people get hurt.
Does Honda Sensing work in Canadian winter?
Mostly, with real limits you should know about. The system reads the road through a camera behind the windshield and a radar sensor at the front of the vehicle. Heavy snow, road salt, slush spray or ice over either one can put the system into a temporary fault, and you will get a message on the dash saying so. Faded or snow-covered lane markings also reduce what the lane-keeping features can see. None of that is a defect; it is the system telling you honestly that it cannot see. Keep the windshield in front of the mirror clear and keep the front grille area clean in winter.
How do I check which features are on the exact trim I am pricing?
Three ways, in order of reliability. Pull the model's specification PDF from honda.ca and read the Honda Sensing block, which is a trim-by-trim grid. Read the window sticker on the actual vehicle rather than the trim brochure. Or send Henry the trim and model year at 647-523-6878 and he will read the spec sheet line by line with you before you put money down.
Is Honda Sensing standard on every Honda sold in Canada?
I have verified the 2026 CR-V and the 2026 Civic Sedan directly against Honda Canada's specification sheets, and on both, the suite is standard across every trim. I have not pulled the sheets for HR-V, Accord, Pilot, Passport, Odyssey or Ridgeline, so I am not going to tell you it is standard everywhere when I have not checked. Ask me about a specific model and I will pull that sheet before answering.
Can Henry go through this with me before I buy?
That is the job. Text Henry Chen at 647-523-6878 with the model, model year and trim you are considering, and he will tell you exactly which driver-assist features are on it and which ones are not — including the times the honest answer is that the cheaper trim already has everything you were about to pay more for. Service is available in English and Mandarin.
Send me the trim. I'll tell you what's on it.
Model, model year, trim. That is all I need to pull Honda Canada's current specification sheet and go through the driver-assist grid with you — including the part where the cheaper trim already has what you were about to pay extra for. No appointment, no obligation.
Ask Henry a question
Not ready to book anything? Just ask. Henry Chen answers every message himself — usually within a couple of hours during business hours. No call list, no pressure, and no obligation to buy anything.
