The Civic Hybrid is not just the efficient Civic. In Canada, it is also the stronger Civic, and that changes the whole comparison.

Honda Canada’s current 2026 Civic Sedan specifications list the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid at 200 combined horsepower, 232 lb-ft of combined torque, and 4.9 L/100 km combined fuel economy. AutoTrader Canada also named Civic its 2026 Best Overall Car and Best Small Car, pointing to the lineup’s efficiency, standard safety technology, Ontario manufacturing reputation, and broad everyday usability. What it means: A lot of shoppers still think of hybrid as the fuel-saver version. Civic Hybrid flips that around. The hybrid is also the stronger Civic, with more torque where you feel it in normal driving, while still carrying a combined fuel number that makes daily Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Toronto commuting easier to justify.

That matters because compact-car buyers are doing more mental math than they did a few years ago. Insurance, fuel, financing, and resale all sit in the same conversation now. Civic Hybrid gives Henry a simple value argument on the floor: you are not paying extra only to save gas; you are getting the better-driving Civic and lowering operating cost at the same time.

My prediction: Civic Hybrid will remain the Civic trim family with the strongest shopper demand through September 30, 2026, and Honda Canada will protect availability before it chases heavy discounting. The reason is simple: 200 hp, 232 lb-ft, and 4.9 L/100 km is too easy for compact-car shoppers to understand.

If you’re buying right now: If you are comparing Civic gas versus Civic Hybrid, do not stop at the payment. Ask what the fuel savings, stronger drivability, and likely resale story do to the real three-to-five-year cost.
