How to make the comparison fair

A few things to lock down so the Ford and Honda numbers are actually comparable:

• Same trim level, same options. Don’t compare a base Ford to a fully-loaded Honda. Match the equipment.
• Same drive type. If the Ford is AWD and the Honda is FWD, the numbers won’t line up. Match AWD to AWD.
• Same term and same down payment. A 36-month lease at $0 down and a 60-month finance at $5,000 down are not the same deal.
• Same trade-in math. The trade-in number on its own doesn’t matter; what matters is the new price minus the trade, plus the Ontario HST credit on the trade. Get both numbers on paper.
• Same delivery date. If the Ford deal expires in 3 days and the Honda deal in 30, the math looks different at the same nominal interest rate.
