Maple Honda Reviews: How to Read Them Before You Visit

Most people read a dealership's reviews before they book a test drive. Here's what I'd look for in Maple Honda's reviews, or any dealer's, and what the star rating on its own won't tell you.

If you searched "Maple Honda reviews", you're probably deciding whether a trip to 89 Auto Vaughan Drive is worth a Saturday morning. That's a fair question to ask about any dealership. I work here, so read this knowing that. I'm not going to quote you a star rating, because the number and the review count on Maple Honda's public Google listing change every week, and a figure copied onto a blog goes stale quickly. Check the current listing yourself. What I can do is tell you how to read what's there.

What a useful dealership review tells you

A five-star rating says someone was happy. It doesn't say why, or whether their situation looks like yours. The reviews worth your time usually have these things in them:

  1. A named person. "Great dealership" is pleasant but tells you little. A review that names the salesperson, the finance manager or the service advisor tells you who to ask for, and who to avoid.
  2. What they actually did. Bought new, leased, bought used, traded in, came in for an oil change. A great lease experience says nothing about how a used-car appraisal goes, and the other way round.
  3. What happened after the sale. Anyone can be friendly while the paperwork is being signed. The reviews that mention a follow-up call, a problem fixed after delivery, or a lease renewal years later are the ones that tell you about the dealership.
  4. A recent date. Staff change. A glowing review from several years ago may be about someone who has since left.
  5. How complaints are handled. Every busy store collects some bad reviews. Look at whether the dealership replies, and whether the reply tries to fix the problem or just argues.

Sales reviews and service reviews are different things

Maple Honda is a full dealership, with new and used sales, finance, a service department and parts. A review about a long wait for a service appointment and a review about a smooth lease signing are both real. They're just about different people and different parts of the building. When you read the reviews, sort them in your head by department. If you're shopping for a car, the sales and finance reviews are the ones that predict your experience. If you're planning to service the car here, read the service ones too.

What the reviews that mention me say

The public Google reviews that name me are reproduced on the homepage, with a link to the live listing so you can check they're real. I'd rather you judge the patterns than any single one. A few phrases come up more than once. One reviewer wrote that I "listened to our needs/budget." A couple buying a CR-V said I "wasn't pushy in any way." A family who bought a used Pilot said I helped them "make an informed decision." That's the job as I see it. You bring the budget and the life you need the car for, and I help you match a Honda to it without rushing you.

Read the less flattering reviews of the dealership too. If one worries you, text me about it before you come in. I'd rather talk it through than have you arrive guarded.

Two checks that matter more than stars

Is the salesperson registered? In Ontario, anyone selling cars has to be registered with OMVIC, the provincial regulator, and you can look that up. OMVIC's rules also require the advertised price to be the all-in price, plus HST and licensing. I explain that rule in all-in pricing explained.

Will they put it in writing? A good review is a promise someone else got kept. The only promise that protects you is the one on paper: the price, the trade value, the rate and the term, written down before you sign. Ask for it, from me or anyone.

Henry's honest take: Reviews are how you shortlist a dealership, not how you decide. Once you've narrowed it down, the test drive and a written quote tell you far more than a star rating. If you're coming up from Richmond Hill and cross-shopping, my RAV4 vs CR-V comparison for Richmond Hill is a good place to start before you book a test drive.

If you'd like to know who else you'll meet at the store, the Maple Honda staff page introduces the team, and my page has more about how I work.

Frequently asked, Vaughan edition

Where can I read Maple Honda reviews?

Maple Honda's public reviews are on its Google listing for 89 Auto Vaughan Dr in Maple, Ontario. How do I check that a car salesperson in Ontario is legitimate?

Anyone selling vehicles in Ontario must be registered with OMVIC, the provincial regulator, and you can look up a registration on OMVIC's website. Ontario rules also require advertised prices to be all-in, plus HST and licensing.
