Honda 7-Seater in Vaughan: Pilot or Odyssey?

Honda Canada sells two vehicles with a real third row. One is an SUV, one is a minivan, and the right answer depends less on image than on who sits in the back and how often.

When a family in Vaughan asks me for a "Honda 7-seater," they almost always mean one of two vehicles: the Pilot or the Odyssey. Those are the only two in Honda Canada's lineup with a proper third row. The CR-V and Passport are two-row vehicles, full stop — if someone tells you otherwise, check the spec sheet. So the real question is not which Honda seats seven. It is whether your family is better served by a three-row SUV or a minivan, and that is a more honest conversation than most people expect to have at a dealership.

The short version

If the third row is used every week — carpools to schools in Maple or Woodbridge, grandparents riding along, kids still in car seats — the Odyssey is the better tool. If the third row is an occasional-use seat and you want all-wheel drive, towing and SUV height for the rest of the year, the Pilot is the better fit. Neither is a bad choice. They are just built around different weeks.

Where the Odyssey wins

The third row is a real seat. Sliding doors, a low floor and the Magic Slide second-row seats — which move side to side and fore and aft — mean a kid can walk to the back without anyone folding anything. You can split two car seats apart so siblings stop touching each other, or slide one over to open a walkway. In a Vaughan Mills parking lot with the car next to you parked a little too close, sliding doors are the feature you did not know you needed.

The cargo numbers are not close. 929 litres behind the third row is room for a hockey bag and a stroller with everyone seated. The Pilot's 635 litres is fine for groceries, tight for a tournament weekend.

Where the Pilot wins

All-wheel drive on every trim. The Odyssey is front-wheel drive. On good winter tires it handles a GTA winter perfectly well — most of the minivans in my service drive are FWD and their owners are fine — but if your driveway is a hill in Kleinburg or you head north of Highway 9 every winter weekend, the Pilot's standard AWD is a real difference, not a brochure line.

Towing and ground clearance. The Pilot is rated to 5,000 lb with AWD, which covers most small trailers and boats. The TrailSport adds the off-road hardware for a cottage road that is more gravel than road. If there is a trailer in your life, the conversation usually ends here.

The part people don't say out loud. Some families simply do not want a minivan. That is a legitimate reason. I would rather you drive home in the vehicle you like looking at than the one that wins a spreadsheet — as long as you have sat in the Pilot's third row and know what you are signing up for.

How I'd decide in ten minutes on my lot

  1. Put the actual people in the third row. Not a quick sit — buckle in the teenager or the grandparent who will ride there. Most decisions make themselves right here.
  2. Install your car seats. Bring them. How many seats, and whether anyone still needs to reach the third row past them, matters more than horsepower.
  3. Load your biggest weekly cargo behind the third row with it upright. Stroller, hockey bag, Costco run — whatever your week actually looks like.
  4. Be honest about winter and towing. If AWD or a trailer is a must, it's the Pilot. If neither is, the Odyssey usually wins on everything else.

Fuel is close enough that it should not decide this: both carry a 3.5L V6, and neither has a hybrid version in Canada. For current pricing and any support on either model this month, check this month's Honda deals rather than a number in a blog post, and for the wider picture on which Honda fits which family, see the best Honda for a family in Ontario.

Henry's honest take: I sell more Pilots than Odysseys, and I send more families home happy in Odysseys than they expected. Book both back to back, bring the car seats, and let the third row decide.

Frequently asked, Vaughan edition

Which Honda has 7 seats in Canada?

Two: the Pilot and the Odyssey. The 2026 Pilot seats 7 or 8 depending on trim and second-row configuration, and every 2026 Odyssey seats 8. The CR-V and Passport are two-row vehicles.

Is the Honda Odyssey all-wheel drive in Canada?

No. The 2026 Odyssey is front-wheel drive. On proper winter tires it handles a GTA winter well; if you need all-wheel drive specifically, the 2026 Pilot has AWD standard on every Canadian trim.

Which has more cargo space, the Pilot or the Odyssey?

The Odyssey, by a wide margin: 929 L behind the third row versus 635 L in the Pilot (618 L in the TrailSport), per Honda Canada's 2026 specifications.
