The next major Honda CR-V change may be closer than it looks. My current read is that North America will receive a new-generation CR-V near the end of 2027, sold as a 2028 model year.
That timing is plausible because the current sixth-generation CR-V arrived for the 2023 model year. A late-2027 launch would give the present vehicle a normal product-cycle runway before a complete redesign. It is still a forecast, however, and production plans can move.

Why I expect the 2028 model year
Honda usually separates a mid-cycle update from a full generational change. The current CR-V has already established its place in the Canadian lineup, while Honda continues to put hybrid vehicles at the centre of its North American strategy. The next logical step is a new platform generation rather than another small visual update.
My forecast is a reveal during 2027 followed by the first North American dealer arrivals late that year. Canadian timing could differ from the United States, and some trims could arrive before others. Until Honda Canada publishes a release, no specific month should be treated as guaranteed.
Henry’s prediction — bold, 12 months: By July 14, 2027, Honda will have provided a meaningful preview or official direction for the next-generation North American CR-V. I expect first units to follow near the end of 2027 as 2028 models. If Honda announces a carryover 2028 CR-V instead, this forecast is wrong.
The new RAV4 sets the competitive benchmark
The CR-V and Toyota RAV4 have competed head to head for years, so the all-new 2026 RAV4 is the most useful reference point for what Honda may need to answer. Toyota Canada’s new-generation RAV4 moved to an electrified-only Canadian lineup, standard all-wheel drive, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and touchscreen choices up to 12.9 inches. Toyota also offers regular hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, plus Woodland and GR SPORT interpretations for adventure and performance buyers. Source: Toyota Canada
That does not mean Honda will copy Toyota feature for feature. It means the next CR-V will be judged against a rival that has raised expectations in five areas: electrified powertrain choice, winter-ready traction, larger digital displays, more advanced driver assistance and distinct lifestyle trims.
What could change?
A new generation normally creates room for improvements to efficiency, cabin technology, safety assistance, ride comfort and packaging. To stay competitive with the new RAV4, I expect Honda to focus especially on hybrid efficiency, available all-wheel drive, clearer digital displays, stronger driver-assistance capability and a wider spread between mainstream, rugged and premium trims. These are expectations, not confirmed CR-V features.
I would not publish horsepower, fuel economy, dimensions, trim names or Canadian prices yet. Those details do not exist in an official Canadian announcement, and early rumours can easily mix markets or change before production.

Should you wait?
If you need a vehicle in the next several months, the current CR-V is the real product you can evaluate, test-drive and price today. Waiting for an unannounced model means accepting uncertainty around its timing, price, equipment and initial supply.
Waiting can make sense if your present vehicle is reliable, you are comfortable keeping it through late 2027 or longer, and you specifically want to compare a completely new CR-V generation. The decision should be based on your timeline, not on the assumption that an unconfirmed launch date is guaranteed.
Prepare for bigger numbers if newest tech is your priority: When a new generation or new model year first arrives, buyers should be prepared for a possible MSRP increase, less aggressive interest rates and fewer incentives than an outgoing model may receive. That can mean a higher monthly or bi-weekly payment for early adopters who want the newest design and technology first. This is planning guidance, not a confirmed 2028 CR-V price or program: rates, incentives, availability and advertised prices can change without notice, and approved rates depend on the buyer and program eligibility, OAC. Henry can compare the live programs on the specific vehicle when ordering opens.
Buy now or wait for the next CR-V?
I can compare the current CR-V with your ownership or lease timeline and give you a straight answer based on what is actually available.
