Honda's Super-ONE Shows the EV Canada Is Not Getting Yet

Honda can build a small, playful EV. The real buyer question is whether that kind of Honda EV is anywhere close to Canada.

Honda Global says the Super-ONE compact EV went on sale in Japan after its May 21 announcement, with a 274 km WLTC range, a BOOST mode that raises output to 70 kW, and fast charging to 80% in about 30 minutes. Honda Global

What it means: This is the Honda EV many city buyers imagine when they ask for an affordable electric Honda: small, useful, characterful, and not trying to be a $60,000 crossover. But Honda has not confirmed the Super-ONE for Canada. At the same time, Honda's North American EV reset is still real: recent reporting tied Honda's paused Canada EV value-chain plan to weak EV economics, tariff pressure, and ongoing USMCA uncertainty. My prediction: Honda Canada will not announce a subcompact Honda EV for Canada before May 31, 2027; its electrified showroom answer will remain Civic Hybrid, Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid, and Prologue because Honda is putting small EVs where the business case is already proven instead of forcing them into Canada before the economics work.

If you're buying right now: If you want a Honda in the next 12 months, do not wait for a small Honda EV to appear in Canada. Compare the hybrids now, and only shop Prologue if a full EV is a hard requirement.

Predictions are my personal read on market direction, not Honda Canada policy. All specs and prices are source-dependent. Incentives change monthly; confirm current offers before making decisions.
