The 2026 Honda Prelude hybrid sports coupe is hitting Canadian dealers this month at $49,990 MSRP ($52,988 with freight and fees). One trim, no option packages. It pairs Honda's two-motor hybrid system — the same powertrain in the CR-V Hybrid and Accord Hybrid — with the suspension hardware from the Civic Type R, including Brembo four-piston front calipers and adaptive dampers. Combined output: 200 hp. Fuel economy: 5.0 L/100km city. Motor Illustrated
What it means: There is no other sporty hybrid coupe in Canada at this price. The closest gas alternatives — Nissan Z at $47,498, Genesis G70 from $48,000 — are both conventionally powered with worse fuel economy and no hybrid story. Honda is pricing the Prelude to make you feel like you're getting Type R chassis engineering at Accord money. The one-trim approach is deliberate: Honda doesn't want to negotiate against itself. First allocations will be limited. On a car like this, dealers historically attach ADM (above dealer markup) on first-run builds.
My prediction: The Prelude's first GTA allocation sells through with markup attached — dealer asking price above $52,988 — before August 2026, because there is no competing product in this segment and Honda will not restrict ADM on limited first-run units. By late fall, once inventory normalizes, the markup disappears and the car becomes a genuine value proposition.
If you're buying right now: If you want a Prelude, get your name on a list this week — not next month. This is a one-trim model so there's nothing to spec or wait for. If you're price-sensitive, waiting until fall when initial allocation pressure eases is likely worth it. If you're in a hurry, expect to be asked to pay over sticker on the first deliveries.
